PRADA BLUE TWEED SKIRT - 2010 (1996 RE-EDITION)
Miuccia Prada, for S/S 1996, created a collection that was a directional turning point. Away from the primarily black and neutral palette, monochrome styling & our dear minimalist techno nylon, it was the arrival of the retro-inspired geek chic, or the ugly chic as some say. Hand-scribbled plaids, a questionable muddy watery green palette, 70s curtain/wallpaper geometric patterns, chunky sandals… “the good taste of bad taste”.
This pivotal collection called «Banal Eccentricity » was described by the New York Times in an Oct. 1995 article as a "tribute to when banal design was elevated to 'Banal Art' at the Venice Biennale in 1980. (Prada) applied the simplest geometric patterns to the simplest shapes, for an effect of deliberate naïveté."
The piece we have is a 2010 re-edition of this tweed moment. This pencil skirt is in a weaved tweed, in a beautiful azure blue color (a similar color was on the 1996 show but not in the weaved tweed pieces). It is fully lined with the same tweed printed on a silky cupro fabric. Raw edges and a zipper in the back.
